Hard water, nappies and eczema!

Came across a really good blog post on washing nappies with hard water. (This is something I do have personal experience with, oh joy). The BIG problem we found was that we needed so much washing power to combat the hard water.  That was on top of the large amount we needed for the dirty nappies themselves.  This had a bad knock on effect, on my sons eczema. The more detergent you use- the less likely you are to get it all out, which then can cause eczema flare-ups.

We had to switch to surecare powder which is much better for his skin and added vinegar to every wash (this was before aquabion days). This did help and I really recommend it.

Then we fitted a washing machine aquabion. This further improved the situation (thanks to the aquabion dealing with the hard water), we could use less of the expensive surecare and cut out the vinegar all together. So now we just use the recommended amount of washing powder for soft water areas.

My son still has eczema of course, the aquabion was just one of those helps,  meaning flare ups are less common and easier to deal with.

The blog I read is here
